"Romeo and Juliet, Elizabeth Bennett and Darcy, and now, Edward and Bella–all couples in fiction that personify love. I’m late to jump on the Twilight train, but after I finished the first two books of the saga in four days, there was clearly something keeping me hooked–and that something was romance. The first book dived head-first into Bella and Edward’s love. Although the books were written for a younger audience, anyone who gives the series a chance will appreciate the love story. Their relationship got me thinking, if people want to fall madly in love, we should take some dating advice from Edward and Bella.
First, Bella challenges Edward which creates an astounding curiosity for him, not to mention he loves the way she (her blood) smells. Men like a challenge. So many females I know try way too hard. Eventually the guy gets bored and leaves. Stop! Like Bella, play hard to get and stand firm on your principles. I guarantee the longer you make him chase, the better the reward will be.
Second, Edward was polite, had manners and was very chivalrous. Even if you’re not the best-looking guy, if you open the door for her or tell her how beautiful she is now and again you will score some major brownie points. Bella appreciates how kind Edward is toward her, especially considering he’s an eternally damned vampire and all.
Third, Edward is constantly protecting Bella. Women like to feel protected. If there is a moment when she feels she could protect herself more than you, step-up and be a man! Make her feel like she’s safe. However, the line between protective and overprotective is sometimes blurred, so be careful not to overstep any boundaries.

And Fourth, Bella only has eyes for Edward, and he only has eyes for her. The way Stephenie Meyer explains how he sees Bella, and how love struck he is makes my knees weak. I’m a sucker for romance in case you haven’t noticed. If you are with someone that you love, stay focused on that person. Put the blackberry away and stop watching the T.V. at dinner. Your partner will notice your intrigue and I’ll bet there will be a positive response.
This series has really struck a nerve with me. The irrevocable, unequivocal love between Edward and Bella is what people strive for. Women especially, want to feel their heart race when he walks toward her, feel beautiful all the time, and feel her knees literally go weak when he kisses her. I know its fiction and love stories rarely are reality, but I think we can all add a little something to our current relationships and marriages by following their example."
