'Runaways' Trailer: Kristen Stewart Parties Like A Rock Star
Get your first look at KStew and Dakota Fanning in action as half of the mid-'70s girl group.



Ever since it was first announced, "The Runaways" has been making news. Now, fans have their first glimpse at the film — and a singing Kristen Stewart — thanks to this exclusive trailer you won't find anywhere else but MTV News.

"In 1975, rock was a man's world," the trailer's narrator explains as the preview begins. "Until ... "
For those of you who haven't been worshipping at the altar of mid-'70s rebellion rock, that "until" refers to the titular band that consisted of Joan Jett (Stewart), Cherie Currie (Dakota Fanning), Lita Ford (Scout Taylor-Compton) and Sandy West (Stella Maeve). Coming together in Los Angeles while they were still teenagers, the foursome broke musical boundaries with their rebellious attitudes, naughty-girl personas and catchy guitar hooks.



Over the past year, "Twilight" fans have eagerly anticipated the indie flick and followed the various incarnations of Kristen's Joan Jett hairdo and punk-loving attitude. Recently, the film was snagged for next month's Sundance, released its first image and was acquired for a March 19 theatrical release.

The fast-paced, energetic trailer for the film — directed by notable photographer Floria Sigismondi — depicts fans mobbing the girls' limo and shots of Kristen with Joan Jett's signature haircut and red-leather jumpsuit. KStew can also be seen in a Sex Pistols T-shirt, tearing her recording studio apart.

"You'd be lucky to get a gig singing in the shower," we can see their producer, Kim Foley — played by "Reservation Road" Oscar nominee Michael Shannon — telling the teens. "Go sell Girl Scout cookies."

At the recent "New Moon" premiere, Joan Jett herself showed up to support Kristen and talk extensively about their friendship. Stewart was excited to learn that her singing and rapidly acquired guitar skills were deemed good enough to be in the movie.

Twilighters are sure to be thrilled by the sight of Kristen rocking out on "Cherry Bomb," the most famous song from the Runaways' brief career. The high-energy rock classic is cut with footage of KStew licking her lips seductively and soaking herself in a bathtub. The trailer ends with the girls frolicking and tossing garbage cans around a car on a suburban street that looks like something out of John Carpenter's "Halloween."

Stay tuned for plenty more on "The Runaways," as we'll be all over this film at Sundance next month. And with a final line like this, how could we not be?

"The Runaways," explains Shannon, "have the most chance of any group I've seen to tear this world apart."
